Yes, but only small quantity. If you send more than 2 kg, Indian Customs will treat it as a commercial shipment, not for personal use. Can I send vitamins, supplements, protein powder, chocolate, dry food, baby food, or powdered milk to India?

Yes, but please follow these rules to ensure your parcel clears customs smoothly:

2. Wrap Each Item: Wrap breakable items separately with bubble wrap or soft padding.

3. Fill Empty Spaces: Add crumpled paper, foam, or air cushions to stop items from moving.

4. Close and Seal Well: Use strong tape to tightly seal all box edges and seams.

5. Label Clearly: Write the sender’s and receiver’s names, addresses, and phone numbers on the box.

This will help your package arrive safely and in good condition.

What is the duty-free limit for India?

India does not apply a standard duty-free threshold for most international shipments.

  • Gifts (sent from one individual to another) may be exempt from customs duties if the declared value does not exceed ₹5,000 (approximately £50)
  • All other shipments, including commercial parcels and online purchases, are typically subject to customs duties and taxes regardless of value

Customs duties in India are calculated based on the declared value and type of goods, not on the parcel weight.

Customs duties and taxes in India are not included in the shipping cost and must be paid by the recipient

Will indian customs contact the recepient? Why?

When the parcel from UK arrives to India, indian customs will contact the recepient and request the soft copy of recepient's passport or Aadhar card. Upon providing the documents, the parcel will undergo customs clearance and will be released for delivery. Customs duties may or may not be applied depending on the estimated value and contents of the parcel.

How do taxes work when sending a parcel from the UK to India?

Customs duties in India are calculated based on the declared value and type of goods.

  • Most parcels sent from the UK to India are subject to customs duties and GST
  • Typical charges may range from 30% to 50%+ of the item value depending on the category
  • Electronics and high-value goods may be taxed at higher rates

There is no fixed duty-free threshold for most shipments, and duties are not calculated per kilogram.

Customs duties and taxes must be paid by the recipient in India.

Why Insurance is important?

Insurance is recommended to protect your parcel in case it gets damaged, lost, or stolen during transit. This is particularly important for fragile, valuable, or irreplaceable items. With insurance, you can receive compensation or a replacement, ensuring that your parcel is delivered smoothly and on time.

Why does my big, light package cost the same to ship as a smaller, heavier?

Volume weight is a way for shipping companies to charge based on how much space your package takes up, not just its actual weight. If your parcel is large but light, it still takes up a lot of room on the truck or plane, so the shipping cost can be higher. Shipping companies use volume weight to make sure they cover the space used by big, light items. If the volume weight is higher than the actual weight, you'll be charged based on that instead.
